Bio
I began painting around 1970. Outside of a few classes in figurative painting with live models, I did not have any formal training. My teachers are the museums, books, and fellow painters – particularly my wife, Linda.
Most of my paintings begin directly or from sketches I make during my journeys in New York City. These journeys include the Gowanus Canal area, the East River shore, the Jamaica Bay shore, and the industrial regions of Brooklyn. My paintings can best be described as landscapes, portraits, and still-lifes, of the streets, the buildings, the parks, the people, the neighborhoods, the wild areas, where I live. I usually work in oil, watercolor, pastel, pencil and ink.
My interest is to do something of my own, that gives a good feeling, that does not offend the eye, that is moving.
